Set consisting of a dining car and a sleeper car. Payá’s “Mastodonte” model is an iconic scale toy locomotive, manufactured by the renowned Spanish toy company Payá Hermanos during the 1950s. This model stands out for its sturdiness and detailed design, which evoked the steam locomotives of the era. The “Mastodonte” is characterized by its tinplate construction, featuring a wind-up mechanism that allowed it to move along metal tracks. This particular model includes three cars and a coal car attached to the locomotive. It accurately details the functioning of the metal wheels, the smokestack, and the engineer’s cab. The attention to detail and the quality of craftsmanship made models like the “Mastodonte” highly prized by children of that era, and today they have become collector’s items particularly sought after by model railroad enthusiasts.
