An interesting set of three portable televisions that allows one to trace, through these small-format objects, the evolution of home television during one of the most technologically transformative periods of the 20th century. All three devices belong to a generation in which the television began to break away from its traditional role as a piece of household furniture to become a portable, personal, and technically increasingly compact object.
Notable among the pieces is the Sony Micro TV 5-303W, introduced in Japan in 1962, along with the JVC Nivico 3020GM, a model produced in Japan around 1973–1975, featuring a Space Age aesthetic. Rounding out the collection is the Sinclair Microvision MTV1, developed in the United Kingdom and commercially released in 1977. Its extremely compact design stands as one of the most unique examples of electronic miniaturization from that decade.
