The Zenith 705 belongs to one of the first generations of home radio receivers designed not only as technical devices but also as pieces of furniture and design objects. Manufactured by the Zenith Radio Corporation of Chicago, it is part of the so-called “Challenger” series.
Amid the rapid expansion of commercial radio broadcasting, the radio began to occupy a central place in homes, becoming a new medium for information, entertainment, and social interaction. Radio technology thus transformed the relationship between the domestic space and events in the outside world, while also giving rise to a new category of objects in which engineering, design, and decoration were closely intertwined.
