DESCRIPTION
Pair of tabletop picture frames. Art Nouveau / Vienna Secession, ca. 1900–1910.
Patinated hammered metal with copper-toned metal accents and glass.
With fold-down back supports.
In good overall condition, with patina and surface oxidation consistent with their age. Slight marks on the glass.
Measurements: 24 x 18 cm, each.
A pair of frames designed with a combination of dark hammered surfaces and copper-toned floral accents. The rose branches, rendered with pronounced three-dimensionality, extend asymmetrically across the frame, while the circular elements at the top introduce a geometric counterpoint. The color contrast between the two finishes accentuates the pieces’ ornamental character.
The design reflects the Jugendstil and Secessionist style that emerged in Central Europe around 1900, where the stylization of natural motifs coexisted with a growing geometric simplification of structures. In these frames, the understated profile and hammered surface are combined with a botanical repertoire that remains fully organic, reflecting the transition between the naturalism of Art Nouveau and the more geometric tendencies of the Secession.
