Elizabethan mahogany frame.
Presents some soiling, some stains and wear.
Measurements: 60 x 85 cm; 85 x 108 cm (frame).
It is part of the series "Les Ports de France', engravings of Charles Nicolas Cochin The Young, with the collaboration of Jacques Philippe Le Bas. Nicolas Cochin was the son of the painter Nicolas Cochin the Elder. Painter, engraver and draughtsman, he trained in the workshops of Jean II Restout and Jacques-Philippe Le Bas. As an engraver he left about 1500 works, including the frontispiece of the Encyclopédie ou Dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers by Denis Diderot and Jean le Rond D'Alembert (1751). He illustrated numerous books: Works of Virgil (1743), Fables of La Fontaine (1755-1759), History of the reign of Louis XV (1753-1770). A complete set of his engravings is preserved in the cabinet of engravings of the National Library of France.
