This commemorative edition by Editorial Planeta, produced in 2015 on the occasion of the V Centenary of the inauguration of the Sistine Chapel, takes as its motif one of the most universal details in the history of art: the hands of God and Adam in The Creation of Adam, a fresco painted by Michelangelo in the Vatican vault. The sculpture, made in lost-wax bronze, isolates the instant prior to the contact between the two fingers, turning it into an autonomous image of extraordinary symbolic force.
The two hands emerge from an arch engraved with the signature and a phrase of the Florentine master, and are placed on a travertine marble base numbered by hand. The suspended gesture between God and Adam condenses the vital breath, the creative energy and the link between the divine and the human. Its craftsmanship, repeated individually on each piece, reinforces the exclusive character of this limited and numbered edition within the Settignano series.
The set is completed by a large-format volume dedicated to Michelangelo, which delves into the four disciplines in which he excelled - poetry, painting, architecture and sculpture - and includes specialized studies on his legacy and the Sistine Chapel. The presentation in an original slipcase, designed to protect and preserve the sculpture and the book, underscores the collectible nature of an edition conceived as a tribute to one of the most iconic images of the Renaissance.
