Serbian artist considered one of the pioneers of performance art. He was born in Belgrade (Yugoslavia) and began his career in the 70s, exploring the limits of the body, pain, physical and mental endurance, and the relationship between artist and audience. Among his best-known works are "Rhythm 0" (1974), where the public could do whatever they wanted to him with 72 objects (including blades and a gun), and "The Artist Is Present" (2010), at MoMA in New York, where he sat silently in front of hundreds of visitors for almost three months.
