L'auca del senyor Esteve is a novel by Santiago Rusiñol published in 1907, which the author later adapted to a theatrical version. This play was premiered to great public and critical acclaim on May 12, 1917 at the Victoria Theater in Barcelona. The novel is the result of the fusion between 19th century costume painting and the popular genre of the auca. It is composed of 27 chapters or fragments that describe characters and scenes of the Ribera neighborhood of Barcelona, which correspond to 27 drawings by Ramon Casas and 27 couplets by Gabriel Alomar.
