"You will not stop me from singing my song. I will sing it forever" is a visually direct piece, designed to make us reflect, inscribing itself in the line to which Shrigley has accustomed us. David Shrigley is known for his seemingly childlike and humorous style, which combines the absurd with critical commentary on everyday life and the art world.
Shrigley, who considers himself an outsider in the art world, is known for creating flat compositions that address the inconsequential, bizarre and disturbing elements of everyday life from an apparently naïve point of view, but full of irony and satire. His language is based on the use of crossed-out words, scribbles and irregular lines. Shrigley's work has been exhibited at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, the Statens Museum of Art in Copenhagen, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow and the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. In 2013, he was nominated for the prestigious Turner Prize for his solo exhibition David Shrigley: Brain Activity at the Hayward Gallery in London. He is also active in film, sculpture, photography and illustration.
