Jose Manuel Ballester finished his studies of Fine Arts in 1984. After leaving behind his academic training at the Complutense University of Madrid, he began his artistic career. At first he worked exploring the field of painting, having as references the Italian and Flemish school. However, in the 90's, he began a path towards photography, combining both techniques in many cases. Ballester has participated in numerous exhibitions both nationally and internationally (e.g. exhibitions at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid, in 2005, the Pinacoteca del Estado de São Paulo, in 2010, the Sala Alcalá 31, Madrid and DA2 of Salamanca, 2012). He has also participated in group exhibitions at the fairs ARCO, Art Chicago, Art Forum Germany, Paris Photo and Art Miami, among others. Today his works can be seen in important private and public collections. Some of the spaces that can be visited and house Ballester's work are the collections of the MNCARS, Madrid, the Marugame Museum of Spanish Contemporary Art, Marugame (Japan), the IVAM, Valencia, the Miami Art Museum, the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, the 21st Century Museum, Kanazawa, the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation, Miami, the Telefónica Foundation, Madrid, the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao and the Coca-Cola Foundation, among others.
