A painter representing Valencian abstraction, Joaquín Michavila was trained at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Carlos de Valencia, of whose academy he has been a member since 1975 and president between 2003 and 2007. After his beginnings marked by constructivism, he left geometry aside and focused his attention on the landscape of the Albufera in 1978, within a language interpreted as typical of lyrical abstraction. Throughout his career he has exhibited all over the world, and was also co-founder of the Villafamés Museum.
