Japanese artist and architect, Susaku Arakawa studied mathematics and medicine at the University of Tokyo and fine arts at the Musashino Art University in the same city. He was a member of the Tokyo neo-Dadaist movement, and one of the precursors of this language. After showing his first works to the public at the Yomiuri Independent Exhibition, in 1961 he settled in New York, where he became a close friend of Marcel Duchamp. Only two years later he began his long collaboration with the artist, architect and poet Madeline Gins. Throughout his career, Arakawa carried out important architectural projects in Japan and the United States, published several books with Gins and held exhibitions of his work in Japan, America and Europe.
