PABLO PICASSO (Malaga, 1881 - Mougins, France, 1973).
"Picasso's Céramiques".
Complete book.
Texts by Suzanne and George Ramié.
Éditions d'Art Albert Skira, Geneva.
Measurements: 39 x 28.5 cm (book); 28 x 38 cm (each illustration).
The book documents Picasso's foray into ceramics, a medium with which he experimented for over two decades, creating more than 3500 designs.
Picasso's connection with ceramics began in 1944, when he traveled to Vallauris to make corrections to some plates. There, a painter friend took him to the Madoura Ceramics workshop, run by Suzanne and George Ramié. The couple introduced the Malaga-born artist to both the basics and the most advanced techniques of the trade. Picasso began working with simple utilitarian objects, such as plates and bowls. Later he ventured into more complex pieces, including jugs and vases with zoomorphic or anthropomorphic handles. He also made mosaics, vessels, turned figures, plaques, tiles and other types made from this material.
