BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

JOSEP GUINOVART BERTRAN (Barcelona, 1927 - 2007).
Untitled. 1975
Intervened engraving (pencil and paintings).
Signed and dated by hand.
Measurements: 36 x 31 cm; 40 x 35 cm (frame).

This work by Josep Guinovart belongs to a key stage of his graphic production, in which the artist conceives engraving as an open field of intervention, not as a closed support. Starting from a previous graphic matrix, Guinovart introduces pencil and touches of paint to alter the original balance of the print and charge it with a gestural, corporal and sensorial dimension.

The composition is organized as an organic network of undulating forms, superimposed lines and dotted patterns that evoke anatomical fragments, folds of the body and contact zones. Without resorting to explicit figuration, the image suggests a latent eroticism, built from the proximity of volumes, the accumulation of textures and the rhythmic fluidity of the drawing. The small pink chromatic accent acts as a focus of visual and emotional tension, underlining an area of special sensorial intensity within the whole. The graphic language -nervous lines, dense stains and strategic voids- refers to Guinovart's interest in the primary and the instinctive.

Josep Guinovart is represented in the Museums of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, Madrid and Mexico City, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Museo de Bellas Artes in Bilbao, the Museo San Telmo in San Sebastián, the Museo Eusebio Sempere in Alicante, the Museo de Navarra in Tafalla, the Casa de las Américas in Havana, the Bocchum Museum in Germany, the Museo de Bellas Artes in Long Island, New York, and the Museo Patio Herreriano in Valladolid.
