DESCRIPTION

PABLO PICASSO (Malaga, 1881 - Mougins, France, 1973).
"Guernica", 1953.
Mostra di Picasso, Milan.
Silkscreen.
In very good state of conservation.
Measurements: 135,5 x 195,5 cm.

Official poster, of great format, realized on the occasion of the exhibition Mostra di Picasso celebrated in the Palazzo Reale of Milan in 1953. The image reproduces a graphic adaptation of Guernica, one of Pablo Picasso's most emblematic works and a universal symbol against the violence and barbarity of war.

The composition maintains the formal complexity and dramatic intensity of the original, articulated from a fragmented structure of human and animal figures, treated through a cubist language of strong expressive charge. The exclusive use of a range of grays reinforces the tragic character of the scene, underlining the emotional and political impact of the image.

The inclusion of Picasso's handwritten signature in green, integrated in the lower part of the poster, establishes a direct dialogue between the reproduced work and the artist's identity, reinforcing its iconic dimension and its function as an exhibition image of great visual power.

This poster is a piece of special relevance within Picasso's graphic production linked to international exhibitions, both for its large format and for the historical and symbolic significance of the motif represented.

Pablo Picasso was one of the central figures of 20th century art and co-founder of Cubism. His work is preserved in the Musée Picasso and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. In the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid. In the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) of New York. At the Tate Modern in London. And at the Art Institute of Chicago, among other institutions of international reference.
