BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

BERNARD BUFFET (Paris, 1928 - Tourtour, 1999).
Untitled.
Silkscreen.
Signed on plate.
Measurements: 71 x 56 cm.

The work presents a composition of marked symbolic and structural character, articulated by means of an energetic and angular drawing, a distinctive feature of Bernard Buffet's plastic language. The image, dominated by incisive black lines and a strong chromatic contrast -with a predominance of yellows and blacks-, conveys a tense and reflective atmosphere, characteristic of his graphic production.

The treatment of space and objects, schematic and almost architectural, reinforces the feeling of isolation and formal rigor that runs through all of Buffet's work. The serigraphy maintains the expressive austerity and precision of the line that define his aesthetics, effectively transferring the principles of his painting to the graphic work.

Bernard Buffet is represented in the collections of the Centre Pompidou and the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, as well as the Musée d'Art Moderne de Troyes and several French fine arts museums. His work is also held in international institutions such as the Tate in London, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
