DESCRIPTION
SALVADOR DALÍ I DOMÈNECH (Figueras, Girona, 1904 - 1989).
"The Temptations of Saint Anthony". 1975.
Engraving, copy 288/300.
Signed and numbered in pencil at the bottom.
Measurements: 51 x 62 cm; 67,5 x 76 cm (frame).
Engraving from 1975 inspired by one of the most emblematic themes of Salvador Dalí's imaginary, "The Temptations of Saint Anthony", a motif that the artist developed throughout his career and that connects directly with his famous painting of 1946. In this graphic version, Dalí unfolds a dreamlike and deserted landscape where the figure of the saint, reduced and vulnerable, faces a procession of fantastic visions.
Animals with disproportionately elongated limbs support architectures, female bodies and symbols of desire, power and vanity, alluding to the moral fragility of human beings in the face of temptation. The cross raised by St. Anthony acts as the only element of spiritual resistance in the face of an unstable, suspended and threatening world.
