Jakob Bill is the son of the artists Max and Binia Bill. He initially studied prehistoric archaeology and art history. He received his doctorate in 1971, after which he worked as a prehistorian and, more recently, as an archaeologist for the canton of Lucerne. A self-taught artist, since the 1960s he has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions. Since 1996 he has been president of the Max, Binia and Jakob Bill Foundation. He lives and works in Adligenswil (Lucerne) and Pianezzo (Ticino).
