DESCRIPTION
ANTONI TÀPIES PUIG (Barcelona, 1923 - 2012).
"Clau de foc" n.4. 1973.
Engraving, copy H.C.
Signed and justified in pencil.
Measurements: 61 x 45 cm; 68,5 x 52,5 cm (frame).
Tàpies combines in this work matter, sign and gesture in a balance between chromatic violence and compositional silence. The intense red -associated with fire, energy and transformation- frames a central surface of eroded texture that dialogues with black graphics of gestural and almost calligraphic strokes, characteristic of his iconography.
The presence of the H.C. copy adds interest for specialized collectors, as it is a print that is out of the usual trade.
Co-founder of the Dau al Set group in 1948, Antoni Tàpies began his public projection in the late 1940s, exhibiting in Barcelona and Madrid. After a stay in Paris in 1950, his career quickly took on an international dimension, with exhibitions in New York since 1953 and a continued presence in the main artistic centers of Europe, America and Asia. His work has been the subject of major international retrospectives and has received numerous prestigious awards. He is represented in the world's major museums and his legacy has a fundamental axis in the Fundació Antoni Tàpies in Barcelona.
