DESCRIPTION
MIQUEL BARCELÓ (Felanitx, Mallorca, 1957).
"Au revoir".1984.
Bichrome lithograph on paper, copy 44/50.
Signed and numbered in pencil.
Measurements: 61 x 90 cm.
"Au revoir" belongs to the first years of international consolidation of Miquel Barceló and reflects the gestural and material intensity that characterizes his production of that decade. The composition presents a still life with a strong symbolic charge: a boat, an animal skull, a shoe and various scattered objects intertwine in a dynamic and almost turbulent space.
The two-color lithography enhances the dramatic contrast between light and shadow, building a vibrant surface with large black areas and scratched or veiled whites. The expressive treatment of the line, almost pictorial, underlines the energy of the gesture and the physicality of the elements represented.
Miquel Barceló was trained in Palma de Mallorca and continued his studies in Barcelona, making his debut at the tender age of seventeen. After discovering art brut in Paris, in 1976 he held his first solo exhibition in a museum, at the Museum of Mallorca.
In 1986 he received the Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas and later the Premio Príncipe de Asturias de las Artes, among other international awards. His work is represented in important museums such as the MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Guggenheim in Bilbao and the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, among other institutions of reference.
