DESCRIPTION
JAUME PLENSA (Barcelona, 1955)
Untitled.1983.
Etching and aquatint on paper, copy 1/17.
Signed and numbered in pencil.
Measurements: 24 x 24 cm (print); 35 x 50 cm (paper).
This print, belonging to a very small print run, is part of Jaume Plensa's early years of graphic research, when the artist explores a refined formal language, based on the tension between geometry, figure and space.
The vertical composition suggests a schematic figure constructed by means of triangular planes and incisive lines that cross the body. The linear, almost diagrammatic elements reinforce the sense of internal structure, anticipating Plensa's later interest in the architecture of the body and the spiritual dimension of form.
Jaume Plensa has had an extensive international career, with outstanding exhibitions such as the retrospective held at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in 2000.
He has received important awards, including the National Plastic Arts Award from the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Medal of Knight of Arts and Letters from the French Ministry of Culture. His work is part of important international collections and museums such as the MoMA in New York, the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid and the MACBA in Barcelona.
