DESCRIPTION

JAUME PLENSA (Barcelona, 1955).
"58", 2015.
Sculpture-book created in collaboration with Artika editions.
Limited edition.
Exemplary justified 449/998.
Bas-relief sculpture made in molded rigid polyurethane with polished white mineral charge finish.
Signed.
The relief-sculpture is in turn a two-piece case that holds an art book and a study book with texts by Rafael Argullol.
Measurements: 36 x 51 cm (closed sculpture).

Book-sculpture created ex profeso by Jaume Plensa for Artika, a work limited and numbered to 998 copies in Arabic numeration and 200 in Roman numeration. According to Editorial Artika itself: "The large-format Art Book invites us to take a visual journey through the last years of the artist's work. A wide selection of photographs with reflections by Plensa himself and quotes from renowned writers. The striking sculpture, conceived as a case in two pieces, which are easily joined thanks to a system of hidden magnets, is the face of a girl with her eyes closed, Anna, a constant in Plensa's work, which conveys serenity, emphasizing the concept of inner beauty". By the hand of Rafael Argullol, the book Estudio, is an essential reference to know and interpret in depth the work of Jaume Plensa and its evolution.

Jaume Plensa has had an extensive international career, with outstanding exhibitions such as the retrospective held at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in 2000.

He has received important awards, including the National Plastic Arts Award from the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Medal of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres from the French Ministry of Culture. His work is part of important international collections and museums such as the MoMA in New York, the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid and the MACBA in Barcelona.
