This work is part of one of José María Sicilia's most recognized series, in which the artist investigates the relationship between nature, memory and language.
The application of varnish and manual intervention gives the surface a luminous-material quality characteristic of his production. The work suggests symbolic associations linked to nature, transformation and knowledge, recurring themes in his career.
José María Sicilia is a leading figure in Spanish contemporary art. He began his career in the 1980s, developing a language linked to the exploration of materials.
His work has been exhibited internationally and is part of important collections. He has received awards such as the National Prize of Plastic Arts, consolidating his position in the contemporary art scene.
José María Sicilia has been awarded the National Prize of Plastic Arts (1989), and is represented in the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the MOMA and the Guggenheim in New York and the CAPC in Bordeaux, among many other art centers and museums.
