This piece relates to one of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's first monumental interventions, "5600 Cubicmeter Package", presented at Documenta IV in Kassel in 1968, a gigantic inflatable white fabric structure suspended by cables that rose vertically above the urban landscape. The project marked a key moment in the development of his famous interventions with fabric, anticipating the great ephemeral works that would define his career.
The montage brings together photographic material linked to the project and its subsequent evolution -including references to the Big Air Package-, becoming a visual testimony of the process and the conception of his environmental sculptures, where fabric and air transform the space and the perception of the environment.
Christo and Jeanne-Claude formed one of the most influential artistic couples in contemporary art. Since the 1960s they developed large-scale projects based on the use of fabrics to wrap or transform buildings, landscapes and public spaces. Among their best known interventions are Wrapped Coast (1969), Running Fence (1976), Wrapped Reichstag (1995) or The Gates in Central Park (2005). His projects, always temporary and self-financed, redefined the relationship between art, landscape and architecture.
