This print is part of the famous Suite Vollard (1930-1937), considered one of the great highlights of 20th century engraving and one of the most influential series of Picasso's graphic work. Conceived as an authentic "graphic diary", the series brings together some of the fundamental themes in the artist's production during the 1930s, such as love, desire, creation and personal conflicts.

The composition, of great linear purity, shows two sculptors in a contemplative attitude in front of a female figure, a recurring motif in the series linked to the figure of Marie-Thérèse Walter, the artist's muse during this period. Executed with a precise and refined stroke, the work evidences Picasso's mastery of etching and his ability to synthesize classical tradition and modernity.
