This edition of Capturing Life brings together a selection of forty images that synthesize Steve McCurry's career, highlighting his profoundly humanistic gaze and his ability to capture the emotional intensity of the portrait. Through scenes taken in different cultural contexts, the photographer builds a visual narrative centered on human dignity and diversity.
The presence of the iconic Afghan Girl in the case reinforces the representative character of the set, underlining the importance of the gaze as a central element in his work. Beyond its content, the careful production and the limited print run make this edition a collector's item, halfway between a book and an art piece, with a remarkable interest in the contemporary photography market.
Steve McCurry is one of the most internationally recognized photographers. He achieved notoriety in the late 1970s with his work in Afghanistan, where he documented the conflict from inside the territory.
His consecration came in 1985 with the publication in National Geographic of the portrait known as Afghan Girl, which became one of the most iconic images in the history of photography. From then on, he developed an extensive career traveling through Asia, Africa and the Middle East, focusing his work on human portraiture and the representation of cultures and traditions.
A member of the Magnum Photos agency for several decades, he has received numerous awards, including the Robert Capa Gold Medal, several World Press Photo awards and the Centenary Medal of the Royal Photographic Society. His work has been exhibited in museums and institutions around the world and is part of important public and private collections.
