SALVADOR DALÍ I DOMÈNECH (Figueres, 1904 - 1989)
"Galatea of the spheres".
Lithograph on Velin paper, copy 200/300.
Signed and justified in pencil.
Measurements: 68 × 51 cm; 85 × 66 cm (frame).
This lithograph reproduces one of the most iconic images of the Dalinian universe, Galatea of the spheres, where the artist develops one of his most characteristic investigations of the 1950s: the decomposition of matter into elementary units. The figure of Gala -the artist's muse and companion- appears fragmented in a constellation of spheres suspended in space, evoking both the atomic structure and a mystical vision of the order of the universe.
Salvador Dalí is one of the most influential, recognizable and sought-after figures of 20th century art, the undisputed protagonist of international surrealism and creator of a universal imaginary; his work is part of the collections of the most important museums in the world, such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the MoMA in New York, the Tate Modern in London or the Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg (Florida).
