Henri Michaux was one of the most singular figures of the European avant-garde of the 20th century, developing a career that oscillated constantly between literature, painting and the exploration of the limits of perception. Born in Belgium and naturalized French, he began medical studies before abandoning them to embark as a sailor, an experience that would profoundly mark his imaginary and his later literary work.
Internationally recognized, he exhibited regularly in Paris and starred in major retrospectives, such as the one held at the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris in 1965. His work, halfway between poetry, calligraphy and painting, is currently represented in institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Tate Gallery and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, consolidating Michaux as one of the great renovators of contemporary artistic language.
