"Homemade Prints" is a series created by David Hockney in 1986 using office photocopiers as an artistic tool, with which he experimented by superimposing drawings, colors and shapes to produce vibrant and spontaneous images. The works, focusing on domestic scenes, flowers, chairs, still lifes and portraits, are characterized by intense colors, simple lines and flat surfaces, showing influences of Matisse and Picasso, and also anticipating Hockney's later interest in digital art and the use of new technologies as a creative medium.
A multidisciplinary British artist, David Hockney was a key figure in British pop art in the 1960s, and is now considered one of the most influential British pop artists of the 20th century. He made his solo debut in 1963, and only seven years later, in 1970, the Whitechapel Gallery in London dedicated his first major retrospective exhibition to him. More recently, important exhibitions have been dedicated to him, such as the portrait exhibition held at the National Portrait Gallery in London in 2006. His work has been shown all over the world, and he is currently represented in the Royal Collection, the Royal Academy, the Victoria & Albert and the British Museum in London, the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid, the SMAK in Ghent, the J. Paul Getty in Los Angeles and the Art Institute of Chicago, among other collections.
