In this series, conceived as a posthumous tribute, motifs characteristic of the French artist are reinterpreted. Georges Braque began his training at the School of Fine Arts in Le Havre. He then moved to Paris, where he continued his studies with a master decorator and at the Académie Humbert. He began his career as a Fauvist, but in the fall of 1907, the Cézanne retrospective and the friendship he formed with Picasso led him to change his style. The work of both artists, closely intertwined, would give rise to and shape Cubism. Georges Braque is represented at MoMA, the Metropolitan, and the Guggenheim in New York; the Musée d’Orsay in Paris; the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, the Palazzo Ruspoli in Rome, the Reina Sofía and the Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid, the Tate Gallery in London, and the Kunstmuseum in Basel, among many others.
