DESCRIPTION
JOAN MIRÓ (Barcelona, 1893 – Palma de Mallorca, 1983)
"Femme-oiseau" and "Personnage"
Two original color lithographs from "Derrière le Miroir," no. 231.
Maeght éditeur, Paris, November 1978.
Measurements: 38 x 28 cm each.
These two lithographs are from issue 231 of *Derrière le Miroir*, published by Maeght in November 1978 to coincide with an exhibition of 51 paintings by Joan Miró at the Galerie Maeght in Paris. The publication included two original full-color, double-page lithographs and a text by Marcellin Pleynet dedicated to the artist.
In them, several of the essential elements of Miró’s late style are recognizable: the figure, the bird, the eye, the star, the black line, and the primary colors. *Femme-oiseau* and *Personnage* reflect the graphic freedom of his mature period, in which these symbols seem to float in space with an energy that is both playful and deeply poetic.
Joan Miró was one of the key figures in 20th-century art. Trained in Barcelona and connected to the Parisian avant-garde scene, he developed his own artistic language based on symbols, biomorphic figures, celestial bodies, birds, and a poetic use of color.
His work is represented in institutions such as the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró in Mallorca, the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid, MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Tate in London, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York, among many others.
