“La Dona” belongs to the period of Equipo Límite’s full consolidation, a particularly active year in which the collective presented *Dulce tormento* at the Sala Parpalló in Valencia, after receiving the Alfons Roig grant, and also exhibited at My Name’s Lolita Art in Madrid. The work encapsulates their unique take on pop art: intense colors, references to comics and popular culture, and a deliberately kitsch iconography. The female figure, elevated to the role of absolute protagonist and treated with irony, also ties into the artists’ interest in redefining the stereotypes and archetypes of women disseminated by the mass media.

Equipo Límite was composed of Carmen Roig Castillo (Cari) and Esperanza Casa Guillén (Cuqui Guillén), both of whom studied at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia. Active between 1987 and 2002, the collective developed a unique strand of Valencian pop art linked to comics, advertising, and kitsch imagery. Among other honors, they received the Alfons Roig Fellowship and a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, and their work is represented in the Salvador Allende Museum of Solidarity and in collections such as those of the “la Caixa” Foundation and the Chirivella Soriano Foundation.
