“Osaka” is part of Miró’s prolific mature graphic output and was created in connection with the presentation in Japan of three publishing projects related to the artist. The composition brings together much of his most recognizable vocabulary: broad masses of primary colors, circles with an astral resonance, and a bold black line that even incorporates the name “Miró” as a visual element. The lithographic process preserves the spontaneity of the gesture and the intensity of the chromatic fields, articulated against the white of the paper through a balance between form, color, and negative space.
Joan Miró was one of the leading figures in 20th-century art, playing a decisive role in the renewal of Surrealism and the development of subsequent abstract languages. MoMA dedicated a major retrospective to him as early as 1941, and in 1958 he received the Guggenheim International Award for the ceramic murals he created for the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. Peggy Guggenheim Collection In 1962, the Musée National d’Art Moderne in Paris organized another major retrospective of his work. FMIRO BCN His work is widely represented in institutions such as MoMA, the Centre Pompidou, the Reina Sofía Museum, the Tate, and the Fundació Joan Miró.
