Pair of septarian nodules.
Belgian calcite.
Natural formation.

Measurements: 39 × 33 × 7 cm.
This pair of septarian nodules is a remarkable example of the physicochemical processes associated with diagenesis, the transformation of sediments into rock. Originating in ancient marine environments rich in calcium carbonate, these pieces formed from the accumulation of fine sediments that gave rise to compact concretions of a calcareous nature. Their intricate fracture patterns, resulting from internal shrinkage and subsequent mineral infilling, along with their vibrant colors, make them fascinating tangible geological stories, highly prized in both mineral collecting and interior design,
During their evolution, variations in water content, pressure and sediment shrinkage generate internal stresses that cause a network of radial and polygonal fractures, known as "septaria". These cracks are subsequently infiltrated by mineral-rich fluids that precipitate inside them, mainly calcite, sealing the cavities and creating the characteristic network of veins.
The contrast between the light areas of the nodule and the dark, branching lines responds to differences in mineral composition and oxidation processes associated with the circulation of these fluids. The result is a structure of great visual complexity, where geometric patterns emerge from natural dynamics.
The remarkable similarity between both pieces points to homogeneous formation conditions, reinforcing their coherence as a whole.
Presented on metallic supports, these nodules clearly reveal their internal architecture, becoming a singular example where geological formation and aesthetic strength converge in a natural way.
