DESCRIPTION
Sevillian school, XVII century.
"Immaculate Conception".
Oil on canvas.
Presents craquelé.
Measurements. 55 x 37,5 cm; 63,5 x 46 cm (frame).
The Virgin, in her invocation of Immaculate, presents in this painting of baroque school a clear influence murillesca. This can be seen in the cottony shades of the brushstrokes and in the roundness of Mary's childlike features. She wears, in accordance with orthodox iconography, a blue mantle and a white tunic (colors that symbolize purity and eternity, respectively). She joins her hands in prayer and rests her feet on a cloud of cherubs. Lights of supernatural essence surround the figure and, as a break of glory, two other seraphim appear among the golden clouds. For the rest, the effigy has been stripped of its characteristic iconography (such as the crescent moon), seeking to subtract the image of the superfluous.
