Arranged around the enthroned Virgin Mary, the apostles overlap while directing their gaze towards the sky from. This powerful image takes us to the passage related in the book of the Acts of the Apostles in which it is described as gathered around the Virgin Mary on the day of Pentecost, seven weeks after the Jewish Passover and ready for one of the main Jewish feasts. There assembled they were illuminated by God who manifested himself in them with tongues of fire over their heads. Once they went out of the door they enjoyed, encouraged, the ability to speak all languages and spread the message of the New Covenant.
This scene is presented to us in a theatrical way in which each of the characters seem to be arranged in order of importance, finding in the foreground St. Peter kneeling and the evangelists and after them the rest, among whom the beloved, St. John, stands out.
