This panel offers us a dynamic and multitudinous Nativity, whose representation has a certain costumbrista touch. A feature that can be appreciated in the representation of the interior where the scene takes place, where household objects can be seen. In the center of the composition is the Virgin, with a youthful and delicate appearance, dressed in a pink tunic. On her knees is the Child, whom the Virgin is feeding in a completely everyday gesture. Around her are three angels helping the Virgin to do the housework.
The Nativity of Christ was one of the most significant and reiterated themes in 16th century Italian painting, deeply rooted in Western Christian tradition and linked to the cult of the Incarnation, the central dogma of Catholicism. Its representation is rooted in the Gospel accounts, mainly in the texts of St. Luke and St. Matthew, as well as in the pious visions spread by the apocrypha and medieval devotional literature, such as the work of St. Bonaventure or the writings of St. Bridget of Sweden. During the Renaissance, the theme acquired a new visual dimension as it was reinterpreted with humanist sensibility: the scene of the Savior's birth became not only an exercise in faith, but also an opportunity to explore the beauty of the human body, the emotional depth of motherhood and the harmony of the natural environment.
