The orthogonal format of the work recalls the classical tondos where the figures were presented in relief. As in ancient cultures, the anonymous author of our work plays with the superimposition of the characters and figures to give rhythm to the scene, creating a sequence in which each one enjoys his own protagonism. The allusions to the classical world are even more visible in the ruins and soldiers in the background. This clear classicist influence leads us to place the work within an Italian production around 1700.
