BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Spanish School of the first half of the seventeenth century.
"Portrait of a gentleman.
Oil on canvas. Relined.
Measurements: 54 x 43 cm; 78 x 68 cm (frame).
Features as evident as the neck gorge or the cut of the beard forming a long mustache and his goatee transfer us immediately into the known as the Spanish Golden Century. Wisely represented by Diego Velázquez, his paintings are full of characters dressed in the same attire and following the strict fashion set by the monarch Philip IV. Faces like the Count Duke of Olivares, so well known in the popular imagination, have similarities with the gentleman we present.
