BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Spanish school of the 20th century.
It follows models of the XVII century.
"Virgin with Child and Allegory of the Eucharist".
Oil on copper.
Measurements: 24,5 x 21,5 cm; 37 x 33 x 3 x 3 cm (frame).

This painting represents a deeply symbolic and devotional composition, characteristic of the Hispanic religious baroque art in whose period it is inspired. The Virgin, in her blue mantle and red tunic (symbolic colors of purity and sacrifice) holds the Child Jesus, who adopts the attitude of blessing. St. John the Baptist Child symbolizes the prophecy of the Messiah, and next to him the Agnus Dei underlines the identification of Christ as the Paschal Lamb. A female figure, representing a theological virtue (such as Faith) or an allegory of the Church, carries a chalice containing the Holy Eucharist, radiant and luminous. Thus, the work synthesizes the themes of the Incarnation, the Redemption and the Eucharistic Sacrifice.
