Adriaen Frans Boudewyns, or Baudewijns, also called in French Adrien François Baudouin was a Flemish Baroque painter, specialized in landscape painting. He trained in the workshop of Ignatius van der Stock. In 1665 he reached the category of master, and his works began to be highly valued, especially in Paris where he had moved to around 1669. Between 1673 and 1677 he worked with Adam Frans van der Meulen, and carried out some commissions for Louis XIV. He also traveled to the castle of Marimont, in Hainaut, to take views for the Gobelins tapestries. In 1677 he returned to Brussels where he settled permanently. His style is a mixture of the Flemish pictorial tradition with elements taken from French classicism, with special influence of Claude Lorrain and Herman van Swanevelt. He often worked in collaboration with Pieter Bout, who usually executed the figures that appear in Boudewyns' landscapes.
