The Italian painting of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, especially that of artists such as Luca Giordano, Salvator Rosa and Corrado Giaquinto, is distinguished by its dynamism, dramatism and exuberance. Strongly influenced by Baroque and Rococo, this period shows an interest in religious and mythological themes as well as in landscape and everyday life. The artistic evolution is characterized by a remarkable technical virtuosity, a marked theatricality, a rich chromatic palette, intense hallmarks of light and a bold and loose brushstroke.
