DESCRIPTION
Spanish school; XIX century.
"Still life".
Oil on canvas.
Presents faults in the pictorial surface.
Measurements: 16 x 22 cm; 31 x 37 cm (frame).
Work ascribed to the Spanish school of the nineteenth century, made in a context marked by the consolidation of the landscape as an autonomous genre, driven by the romantic and realistic interest in nature and territory.
The scene presents a sober natural motif devoid of narrative anecdote, in keeping with nineteenth-century taste. It is articulated by means of a balanced composition and a restrained palette, where earthy tones and gradations of light predominate. The brushstroke, measured and effective, builds volumes and textures without artifice, reinforcing a naturalistic reading that seeks veracity rather than idealization.
In the Spanish school of the 19th century, the still life acquired a renewed importance as an autonomous genre. Influenced by realism and the recovery of the Golden Age tradition, the nineteenth-century still life was characterized by a sober and truthful representation of everyday objects, where light, texture and composition acquired a leading role.
