Half-length female portrait inscribed in the European portrait tradition of the second half of the seventeenth century, at a time of intense artistic interrelation between northern Italy and the Hispanic Monarchy. The old attribution to Claudio Coello responds to this context of shared influences, where the compositional sobriety of Hispanic roots is combined with a softer and naturalistic treatment of the flesh tones, characteristic of the Lombard environment.

The sitter appears on a dark neutral background, a resource that emphasizes her dignity, while her slight twist and direct gaze provide a sense of closeness, moving away from more rigid formulas. She rests her hand on the back of a crimson velvet chair with gold applications, an element that underlines her social status.

The richness of the clothing stands out, where the red ribbons introduce a chromatic note of great visual effect. The lace is evidence of the interest in the representation of textile qualities, while the pearl jewelry adds shine to the composition, while alluding to symbolic values associated with feminine virtue.

The work combines a delicate modeling in the face, with smooth transitions, with a freer brushstroke in the secondary elements, achieving a balance between detail and ease. All this places the painting in a workshop environment or circle close to courtly models, within the broad framework of the international baroque.
