A painter specialising in the watercolour technique, author of landscapes and still lifes of flowers and fruit, José Civil developed a language of bright, well-harmonised colours. He made himself known through exhibitions and competitions, especially the individual exhibition held at the Sala Nancy in Barcelona in 1927. He was also a member of the Agrupación de Acuarelistas de Cataluña and of the group "Art Vivent", with which he exhibited at the Sala Busquets in Barcelona in 1934.
