Julia Alcayde began her training in Madrid with Manuel Ramirez, professor at the School of Arts and Crafts. Later she would also study in Gijón, and in time she would become one of the most frequent Asturian signatures in the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts, participating in all the editions between 1885 and 1934. It obtained two third medals (1892 and 1895), two second medals (1912 and 1899) and a decoration in 1920. She was also awarded, with first medal, in the exhibition sponsored by the newspaper "El Noroeste" in Gijón in 1896, as well as in the one organized by the Círculo de Bellas Artes of Madrid in 1903. This painter also took part in the Salones de Otoño in Madrid and in the International Exhibitions of Chicago (1893), Brussels (1910), Buenos Aires (1910), Rome (1911) and Munich (1913), and at present her works can be seen in the museums of these cities. His work is currently represented in the Jovellanos Museum in Gijón and in the Prado Museum (work on deposit at the Ramiro de Maeztu Institute), as well as in various private collections.
