Robert Helman was a French-Romanian painter prominent in the Parisian art scene of the 20th century. Born in Gala?i, Romania, into a Jewish family, Helman moved to Paris in 1927 to study law, although his true passion was painting. During World War II, he lived in Barcelona, where he joined the collective "Los artistas de la Campana de San Gervasio", alongside figures such as Antoni Tàpies and Joan Ponç. After the war, he returned to Paris and established his studio in Montparnasse, actively participating in exhibitions and collaborating with renowned galleries. His work, influenced by his experience of migration and exile, is characterized by a lyrical abstraction that seeks to represent the intangible and the spiritual, exploring themes such as nature, genesis and the human connection with the cosmos. Helman died in 1990 at his residence in Champagne, France.
