BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
RAFFAELE TAFURI (Italy, 1857 - 1929).
"Interior scene".
Oil on panel.
Signed in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 31,5 x 47 cm; 42,5 x 58,5 cm (frame).
Born in Salerno, although he developed his career in Venice, Raffaele Tafuri was a painter specialized in the landscape, although he also approached subjects of figure, always with a personal language of romantic and academicist inheritance, that incorporated the influence of his teachers, showing himself thus heir of the Neapolitan and Venetian traditions. His brilliant palette is especially evident in his watercolors, a medium he used for the design of postcards. Many of his chromolithographic prints show loosely executed Venetian scenes, although he also produced Christmas cards that show a strong Art Nouveau influence. Throughout his career, Tafuri became known through solo exhibitions and official competitions, among the first being the one held at the Pesaro Gallery in Milan in 1918. He also took part in the International Art Exhibitions of the City of Venice, in their editions of 1895, 1905, 1907, 1909, 1910 and 1914.
