Felipe Checa begins his formation in the Superior School of Painting of Madrid, where he is granted a scholarship to continue his studies in the Academy of San Fernando. In 1871 he exhibited his works for the first time at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. The following year his father died, so Checa returned to his native Badajoz to take care of family affairs. In this city he creates an Academy of Drawing and Painting, in 1876. He continues to participate in the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts, and obtains Honorable Mentions in the Floral Games of Seville (1875) and the Exhibition of Fine Arts of Barcelona (1891). He obtains the Gold Medal in the Extremadura Regional Exhibition commemorating the IV Centenary of the Discovery of America, in 1892. In 1903 he was awarded the Diploma of Honor at the Regional Exhibition of Béjar. Currently we can admire his work in the Prado Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts of Badajoz and the National Museum of Art of Catalonia.
