DESCRIPTION
JOSEP BERGA I BOIX (La Pinya, Girona, 1837 - Olot, Girona, 1914).

Painter and writer, Josep Berga i Boix had to go into exile in France because of the Third Carlist War. He returned in 1868, called by his friend Joaquín Vayreda to direct the Artistic Center, a private painting academy created around the painters of the school of Olot. Under his teaching the sculptors Josep Clarà and Miquel Blay, among others, were trained. But what he excelled most in was painting, with a marked realism, through which he was able to bring to the canvas the great Olot landscape with a very personal style. As an illustrator he collaborated with the magazine "Catalunya Artistica". His works are preserved in the Museum of Modern Art of Olot, the Abbey of Montserrat, the Museum of Art of Girona and the Regional Museum of La Garrotxa, as well as in various private collections.
